4th Street Auto Racing Team News

The 4th Street Auto racing team will start another era in 2011. Rick's six year old son will begin his racing career in the spring of 2011. Adam ran his first quarter midget race in October. "After his first race he had the biggest smile I have ever seen" Rick said. Quarter midgets are small "Go Kart" type race cars that children ages 5-16 race. They are capable of speeds over 35 mph on a 20th mile oval race track. Locally they race at the Oakland County Sportsmen's Club in Waterford Michigan. Quarter midget races are held at tracks all over the United States.

Auto racing is in the Kilbourn family's blood as 2011 will mark Rick's 55th year racing cars. Rick started racing quarter midgets in 1956 at the age of four years old. His three daughters raced their quarter midgets across the country from 1979-2001 gathering hundreds of feature wins, several regional and club championships and topped it off with two national championships. "Those memories with my daughters are something I will never forget" Rick says.

Rick will start his 15th year racing legends race cars. Legends cars are 5/8 scale race cars that resemble the race cars of the 30's. They are powered by 1300cc Yamaha motorcycle engines that produce over 135 horse power and are capable of speeds around 90 mph. Rick races at several oval tracks across Michigan with an occasional trip to Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio.
